Ya know what I was sitting here thinking. Why don't they sell replacement wigs for our dolls? I bought a Felicity off ebay and she has a bunch of hair missing-- was going to buy some hair and weft it in but can't find hair cheap & good enough.
For example--Hair alone is most of our problems--girls cut it or it is too dry--
some people send in for silver eye and the head gets wrecked trying to remove the eye.
Why couldn't they salvage the wig?
There is no other choice but to get a whole new head. A whole new head is like $38 which is almost 1/2 the price of the doll!
Please post your thoughts on this why vs why not AG should do this.
Inquiring minds want to know.

I agree. I think that is a good idea. My Lissie's curls are GONE and Molly could really use new hair, but she's Pre-Mattel and I don't really want her head replaced.

I really wish they would sell replacement wigs, too. The cost of head replacement just went up to $39, and with shipping in two directions, it costs about $50 to have a head replaced.
They could charge 1/2 the cost of head replacement, and I'd be happy.
I always laugh when sellers on Ebay, that don't realilze they don't replace wigs, will say in their auctions "just send the doll to AG for a new wig"....right, they have no idea how much that adds to the cost of buying their doll!

I know exactly what you mean about the ebay sellers! And then it irks me that they didn't bother to check their info to find out AG does NOT replace wigs, as much as we wish they did.
Having replacement wigs would be a wonderful choice to have. Of course, why should they when they can get away with charging the price for a new head instead? And besides, according to AG there is absolutely no difference between a pm and mattel doll!
Agh.

I too wish AG would sell just replacement wigs. I really don't understand why they don't want to offer this service. Since I think there are 'individual' expressions on the dolls faces (some of them really do look just slightly different than others to me) I would really have to want a new wig desperately to chance a new head being less cute.
I did some basic research on wigs a few months ago because I am contemplating trying to turn a HH Gwen into a Delaney for my DD. The only place I found that had Kanekalon (hope I spelled this right) wigs was Engel Puppen in Germany. They had quite a few styles and colors available but of course it was pretty expensive with international shipping etc. Perhaps they could help you? Katie

I know the answer: MONEY. One of the biggest problem with Mattel taking over is the need for profits. I think they could make enough profits with wig replacements. Heck, they could make it a service at the doll salon. Unfortunately, I think they enjoy charging 1/2 a doll for just the head.

One reason that AG doesn't do wig replacements, I believe, is the chore of getting an old wig off the doll!
I have rewigged other dolls with not too much trouble but the AG dolls have glue that is VERY strong. Maybe it is that way so the dolls can take a lot of hair play.
I dewigged a Felicity doll and some of the orginal wig hair is imbedded into her head. I've even tried sanding and carving it out!
I finally just covered up her messed up head vinyl with a new wig.

I think the AG Hospital would make a MINT in volume alone, if they offered wig replacement!
The hair is usually the first thing to go in a little girl's doll--they carry them around by the hair, they over-brush, yank at the tangles, use blowdryers, even CUT the hair, etc.
I'd bet some dolls would wind up at the AG Hospital at least twice a year!
If AG really thought this through, they would see how profitable wig replacement could be--lower shipping costs than heads, lots of repeat business, fewer unhappy customers wanting their "original heads" returned or unhappy with un-asked-for limb replacements to match skintone of the Mattel heads, etc....
(And it's not so hard to get the original wig off if you follow Sakurako's advice, and use a trusty soup spoon! )
Lots of people just assume that ANY doll hospital replaces wigs; in most cases, I think it's a reasonable assumption. Replacing a head is too much like replacing the whole doll, and too expensive, besides--just my humble opinion....
Are you listening, AG?

Concerning wig replacement. I called the hospital and wanted a new wig for Molly. I was told that the time it consumes to remove the wig, glue and replace a wig wasn't cost effective. Also, there is the risk of damage to the doll. The hospital staff didn't want any malpractice suits.
While at the Chicago AGP, I spoke with the hair care specialists. Most of the staff were kind but could not comment on wig service. It just isn't offered. They will spray wet the hair, brush...vigorously.. the hair, braid or curl then the client is returned to the owner.
I will check another thread concerning my experiences with the doll hospital. Interesting facility.

I would love for them to sell just the wig if any of my dolls ever needed it... I wouldn't want a new head for my dolls because I think that's part of what makes them who they are! I mean, you wouldn't just give a human a new head, right?!
